When reports of ICE activity increased in the San Gabriel Valley, many immigrant families felt unsafe leaving their homes. SGV Progressive Action helped coordinate community defense efforts, sharing verified information, Know Your Rights resources, and support. We also partnered with Operation Healthy Hearts to host supply distributions and deliver groceries to families sheltering in place, ensuring no one faced fear or isolation alone.

When the LA wildfires hit our region, the impacts were immediate and deeply felt. Families were displaced, air quality worsened, and frontline responders worked without enough resources. SGV Progressive Action helped mobilize mutual aid efforts to collect and deliver supplies to those affected, including support for Indigenous firefighters and community partners responding directly on the ground.

Over the past year, a powerful shift has taken place across the San Gabriel Valley. What began as scattered calls for a permanent ceasefire in Palestine has grown into a coordinated regional movement grounded in community care, moral clarity, and the belief that local voices matter in global struggles.

Anti-Asian hate surged in 2020 and 2021, leaving many in our community grieving, afraid, and angry. In response, SGV Progressive Action and local partners came together to create space for healing, solidarity, and collective action.

SGV Progressive Action formed in 2020 during the Black Lives Matter uprisings, recognizing the need for a regional network of San Gabriel Valley–based organizations to support protests, policy change, and community education around police brutality and public safety. Our early work focused on showing up for Black organizers, coordinating mutual aid and protest support, and advocating for investments in care, not policing.

During the pandemic, many in the San Gabriel Valley struggled with uncertainty and unequal access to resources. SGV Progressive Action helped connect neighbors to support through mutual aid, community care, and information sharing, reminding us that our strength comes from looking out for one another.
